Sports Massage

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a type of deep tissue massage used to help the musculo-skeletal system in different ways. It can be a targeted approach to helping specific areas of muscular tension which build up over time. Muscular tension build-up does not have to be related to sports, it can be due to general movement and lifestyle. Sports massage can encourage circulation and have therapeutic effects towards reducing stress and also benefits training. 

 

Who is it suitable for?

Anyone can have a sports massage as long as it has not been advised against by a doctor. You do not have to partake in any sports or have a sports related injury. It can also be used to help prepare the body both pre and post sports events. 

 

Please inform the therapist if you are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder, or are taking any blood thinning medications as precautions need to be taken regarding the pressure of the massage. Please also inform the therapist if any areas of your skin are broken, bleeding or bruised as these should be avoided.

 

Is it painful?

The pressure of a sports massage is always tailored to suit each client. The pressure is usually firm but tolerable.
